Chuncheon & Nami Island Travel Guide: My Favorite Weekend Escape from Seoul
Whenever city life starts to feel overwhelming, one of my favorite weekend getaways is Chuncheon and Nami Island.
After living in Seoul for more than 30 years, I've taken countless short trips around Korea. Whenever friends from overseas come to visit, Chuncheon is one of the places I recommend most often. It's close enough for an easy day trip, surrounded by beautiful nature, and even the train ride feels like part of the experience.
Nami Island is especially popular with visitors from across Asia thanks to the famous Korean drama Winter Sonata, while Chuncheon itself is well known as the home of Korea's famous dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken) and makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles).
If you're planning your first visit, here's everything you need to know—from transportation and recommended itineraries to food, accommodation, and estimated travel costs.
Why Visit Chuncheon and Nami Island?
Chuncheon is one of Gangwon Province's most popular travel destinations.
Surrounded by the Bukhangang River and Uiam Lake, the city offers peaceful scenery that's completely different from the fast-paced atmosphere of Seoul.
Just outside the city lies Nami Island, a small half-moon-shaped island famous for its tree-lined paths and beautiful scenery throughout all four seasons.
